Mega-Rant
The Diversion that should have filled this space went on for to long, so it has been replaced by a new Mental Meandering.
Posted by david at November 21, 2004 11:35 PM | TrackBackSadly, this is only too true. Our education system is a chaotic shambles.
In fact , it is a travesty of the education I received at a comprehensive school in Wales from 1975-1982.
We were lucky enough to be inspired and to be taught properly.
We certainly learned how to read, write and spell English extremely well, due to a superb teacher, who was capable of getting our class reading and enjoying Chaucer in Middle english at 16..........now, you are lucky if the average 16 year old has a reading ability great enough to cope with the Sunday Sport " newspaper" ( a tabloid paper which is 95% pornographic pictures and 5% spurious news stories a la National enquirer, but dumbed down a lot!)
That is an outstanding "rant." You need to rant somemore. I couldn't agree with the Prince more. Here in the US, education has taken a major down turn. God forbid we should "leave any child behind" which equates with allowing them to flunk and repeat a grade. Many parents want their babies to be babied and have all good things handed to them on a silver platter with gold spoons! Heaven forbid we should make a child work for a grade, or even work to keep their rooms clean or whatever. Argh! Don't get me started now!
This was very good David! Thanks!
